AQHA Perlino Stallion Sierra Sandstone

Sierra Sandstone

AQHA Perlino Stallion Sierra Sandstone has captured the hearts of many with his suave personality and glamorous looks! I have had the opportunity to own this wonderful stallion for three breeding seasons and I can say that he has not disappointed me not one time! He has produced Buckskins, Palominos and Smokey Blacks! He passes his gorgeous head to all of his foals.

The story behind Sierra Sandstone... It all started with surfing the internet and I found JJ Performance Horses in Butte Montana. I saw this wonderful Stallion on their website with a FOR SALE tag on him. I decided that I HAD to have him. I called of Jen and Jason the owners of JJ Performance Horses and told them I wanted to place a deposit on this boy I had to have him in North Carolina. Deposit was made and it was on from there!

So I decided that I was going to drive across the United States to get this horse from Montana... AND I DID! My stepdad and I drove from here in NC almost to Canada! I forgot to mention the best part it was February, Below freezing and everywhere was under snow! I was dead set on getting this horse home and there was NO stopping me.

I am so glad that I was able to purchase this wonderful boy! He has the personality, the looks and the bloodlines! He's a total package. So let me get a little more specific with the information on him.

He is an AQHA Perlino Stallion. He was foaled in 2006! He stands in at 15.3 HH. He has excellent bloodlines   Sierra Sandstone Pedigree

He has sired some super foals as well. Check out this link to pictures of some of his foals! Sierra Sandstone Foals

AQHA Cremello Stallion Kings Vanilla Ice

                                         KINGS VANILLA ICE

This stallion is our newest addition to The Creekside Farm. He was purchased in January 2011 just before breeding season got started. I researched this guy's lineage and decided I HAD to buy him. He is bred exceptionally well, has great confirmation, a good mind and is a color producer to boot! I had to have him so bad I sold my AQHA/APHA Palomino Stallion Zips Sonny Afternoon so I could purchase the new Cremello Stallion!

This stallion is a Cremello and genecally he is a sorrel horse with two copies of the "creme" gene. A palomino is a sorrel with one copy of the "creme" gene. When a Cremello is bred to a sorrel horse the offspring will be a palomino 100% of the time. The reason for this is the Cremello is a double dilute that has two "creme" genes, so it can only pass a creme gene to its offspring. (Remember offspring get one gene from each parent) If the "creme" gene and the sorrel or "red" gene is passed then the resulting offspring will be a palomino, which is a sorrel with one copy of the "creme" gene.

AQHA Cremello Stallion Kings Vanilla Ice had been a wonderful asset to our breeding program and has already proven himself to be very valuable to us! He is a very easy breeder. He will hand breed or pasture breed and he will allow you to collect him on the phantom mare for shipped semen. We have bred him to most of our broodmares both AQHA and APHA for the 2012 foaling season.

Kings Vanilla Ice has a proven track record! He is APHA Stallion listed. He has 16 registered AQHA foals to date. We are super excited about his foals next year, he has been bred to Cremellos, Sorrels, Bays and a Red Dun Tobiano mare. We are expecting 4 foals from him next year in our own broodmare band and he was bred to several outside mares as well.

Kings Vanilla is 95% Foundation bred so his foals if bred to the right mares can be NFQHA, AQHA and PHBA registered. He has Poco Bueno on his papers and line bred King several times. Poco Bueno had an impressive record  Halter points-37.0, Performance points-8.0. He was an AQHA Champion/ROM Arena. He was also an inductee into the AQHA Hall of Fame.

We are pleased to have this Stallion as a part of our Creekside Farm family!

Honor your Broodmare...

Breeding season coming to an end and here at The Creekside Farm we have successfully bred all of our mares and several exquisite outside mares! We are looking forward to the 2012 foal crops coming next year! We are expecting alot of GOLD!

So breeding season is over and now the next step is keeping that mare healthly throughout the pregnancy so she produces you a nice healthy foal at the end of her gestation. Everyone has their own ideas of how this is done. Here are The Creekside Farm we have produced many nice foals and this is what we do!

NUTRITION

Make sure that your mare is fed a good quailty diet, most import to include  good-quality hay, grass, and a mineral block. You can also discuss this with your veterinarian to decide what is right for your horse.

DEWORMING

We deworm our pregnant mares along with the other horses on an 8 to 12 week cycle. We also give the  mare a dose of ivermectin on the day of foaling to decrease the transfer of Strongyloides westeri in the milk.

We also rotate the dewormers that we use. This does not mean change brand names it means switch from Ivermectin, to Pyrantle to Benzimidazole. That way you can target ALL the worms that your horse may carry at that time of the year.

Here is an Ideal Deworming Program:

January/February  Pyrantel
March/April         Benzimidazole
May/June             Ivermectin

July/Aug              Pyrantel
Sept/October      Benzimidazole
November/
December           Ivermectin

At horse.com Generic Ivermectin is on SALE $1.99 per tube. http://www.horse.com/item/generic-ivermectin-dewormer-187/SLT500400/?srccode=11JUN23I&emid=11JUN23I

VACCINES

We administer the EHV-1 vaccination to prevent early abortion in the mare, we administer the vaccination at 3 months, 5 months, 7 months and 9 months.

Around 30 days prior to her due date, vaccinate the mare with all the usual annual vaccines you give, like EWV and Tetanus, Potomac Fever, WNV, rabies, whatever you normally give in your area. This allows the mare to pass on antibodies at their fullest potency in the colostrum (first milk) to the foal. If you do this, you may not need to give the foal a tetanus shot or vaccination until age 6 months.

ULTRASOUNDS AND PALPATIONS

We ultrasound our mares at 14 days to verifiy the pregnancy. Then we palpate at 30, 60 and 90 days. Finally before we hit the harsh winter here in NC we get them palpated around the 6/7 month mark to take us into the 3 trimester.

I hope that this was informative and please consult your veterinarian for your horses personal care needs.
